Best Breathing Technique! Improves health and mental well-being. Try it... you won't be sorry!

If I could give this book 20 stars I would. It is a deceptively easy technique and different from any other breathing practice I have ever done.... and I have tried many! I have read at least 20 books on breathing and different techniques and I finally found something that truly works! Initially, I bought this book hoping to make my breathing more fluid. I had a tendency to hold my breath. Not only do I no longer hold my breath, it brought a level of calmness to my life that was completely unexpected. I have given away at least 5 copies of this book and have recommended it to countless others. Do yourself a favor and try this!!!!!

I haven't read the book yet but I wanted to post right away that the audio files are available for download with the Kindle edition. All you need to do is open the reading sample of the book from the Amazon book page and part way in there is a link to the audio files. I easily downloaded them and saved them to my computer and then sent them to my android phone.

Great for learning proper breathing and meditation.

My Tai Chi Teacher started using this CD in our class for part of Qigong breathing and meditation. We listen to the track with the chimes. One chime breathing in...the next chime breathing out. The doctor's voices are very soothing and relaxing. It is a wonderful way to relax and meditate. This is a wonderful book with the CD inside. The book very easy to understand, I enjoyed the explanations of "Healing with breath" which is much needed in this busy world where we seldom take time for ourselves. Everyone in my class loves it! Highly recommended for anyone who wants to know the proper way to breath and meditate and wants a relaxing soothing CD and good informative book to read.

Slipknot and Stone Sour vocalist Taylor's follow-up to Seven Deadly Sins reveals itself to be a well-meaning but often meandering collection of ghost stories and far-out philosophical and quasi-scientific ruminations on the existence of God and ghosts that never quite comes together. Circular discussions, tangential digressions and lack of focus detract and irritate rather than provoke thought or introspection; the reader instead must concentrate on Taylor's ever-wavering train of thought in order to keep up. Luckily he does much better when addressing paranormal and supernatural experiences, which constitutes the majority of the book. Some of these encounters are sought out, while others, like the ghostly children who inhabit his current home and the mansion full of ghosts who terrorized the band during a recording session, are mere chance. Taylor's enthusiasm for his topic and sheer wonder is infectious; he makes for a humble, charming host. Still, it's die hard ghost hunters and fans of Taylor's music that will likely get the most out of this. Those on the fence, whether it's regarding organized religion or the existence of ghosts, likely won't have any major revelations.

An Entertaining Array of Ghostly Encounters

A copy of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven was provided to me by Da Capo Press for review purposes.

'Thinking back now, it was really just a creepy house that creaked and shuddered, but to impressionable nine-year-olds, it was the vacation spot of the devil itself.'

To give you all a proper introduction for those who are unaware, Corey Taylor is the lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour and the author of Seven Deadly Sins. 'A Funny Thing Happened' is a worthy follow-up novel and another tantalizing look into the mind of an incredibly interesting man.

At face value I was expecting 'A Funny Thing Happened' to be a random smattering of ghostly encounters he has had over the years, and it is, yet it's a fascinating exploration into the reasoning behind ghosts. His scientific details will definitely get you wondering because his hypotheses generated some genuinely possible answers. Surprisingly intellectual and educational, 'A Funny Thing Happened' is definitely a conduit that spurs some serious debates regarding the existence of the paranormal.

'Cynics will claims that my "eyewitness accounts" can easily be described as "flights of fancy," or "the trappings of an overactive imagination." [...] the one I hate even worse than those others: "You saw what you wanted to see and nothing more."
Let me f***ing telling you something: I did not want to see this s***, and I still do not want to see this s***.'

A Funny Thing Happened is written with a humor that is harsh and biting yet oh so entertaining. This is a man that isn't afraid to speak his mind yet is graciously considerate of others beliefs. He's mindful and respectful of others beliefs regardless of whether or not he shares them. Simply put, he is a man of many opinions and isn't afraid to share... such as it should be.

'Belief is a gift you should cherish; knowledge is a gift you should never squander.'

This book is like one big discussion, all topics are left open to interpretation, without concrete facts, just mindful musings and hypotheses. It will definitely generate antithetical opinions, however, approach this with an open mind and you may find yourself actually considering the possibilities of an alternate opinion. Or maybe you'll remain a skeptic. Either way, this book will definitely leave you something to ponder.

The Good & Bad of an Amature Ghost Hunter

Why would you buy this book? If you love ghost stories told to you by the front man of your favorite metal band, then this is the book for you. If you like wandering monologues on existential angst, that might mirror your own inner struggle, then again this is the book for you. If you want to pretend you are Corey Taylor's best friend, this is a lovely read for those who like to be spooked. If you want a first hand account of experiencing the unexplainable, or a front row seat to someone who is awakening to their psychic gifts of becoming a medium and has no clue, then this fills the bill. If you want answers, then this is not the book you are searching for. Nor does it pretend to be. If you want the worst advice on dealing with a hostile energy, then yes, this is it!

Chapter by chapter, Corey Taylor takes you on a cross time, cross country, road trip of the ghosts he has encountered. He takes us into public and private places that not everyone has full access to. Corey collects ghost encounters like some folk collect expensive wine. He savors these stories like exotic treasures, laying them out for us all to vicariously sup at his table. He even has his own pet ghosts which reside in his humble abode (that is after leaving the dangerous ghosts from the last place he lived behind for the next owner to deal with). If you are open to the energies of the paranormal, then Corey's bumbling into ghosts, some of them just plain dark, will make you shake your head and ask, `what was he thinking?'

Sometimes he's been scared, really scared, but he keeps coming back for more. Granted not everyone sees ghosts... yet. He has been exposed to things he cannot explain, and has been working on a theory to explain his experiences. Unfortunately he is working on a one-size-fits-all theory which never accommodates diversity. He is chasing after an explanation of `why are there ghosts' and the real question, the question he never asks is; how come I can see then and no one else can? How come they keep on being drawn to me?

This is how you can tell you are opening to psychic gifts, hearing or seeing disincarnates, experiencing their energy first hand. They reside in the level of energy which is closest to our own dimension. Corey never makes that leap, because he never actually asks anyone who has professional experience with ghosts, however he does call for a national dialog. He even expects people to challenge him and welcomes that, perhaps he just likes a good fight, but nowhere does he create a forum for that dialogue to take place.

His pet theory is `intelligent energy', he mentions it a great deal, but if he studied Carl Jung he might find that Jung's theory of the collective unconscious shares many traits with Corey's thoughts. (The interesting thing for me is that I channel professionally. The being I channel is The Sophia. She describes herself as `intelligent energy,' the energy we use to manifest our desires, this could be something that Corey picked up from the `collective unconscious' when he was formulating his hypothesis.)

The advice he gives on how to handle a hostile energy is to go into raging, meltdown mode. Never do this. Corey believes that it is keeping `them' in line. The first thing is, he is mistaking a possession, for a haunting. Dark energies feed on anger, fear, sorrow, hate, jealousy and any other lower vibrational emotion. Dark energies aren't ghosts, they are their own individual category. They are often drawn to where ghosts hang out and then feed on the human emotions they find there. Drinking alcohol or doing drugs in these places allows dark energies a doorway into a human host. Entity Possession by Samuel Sagan M.D. is a really good tutorial on this with chapter after chapter of patient sessions, and an overall view of how dark entities come into being. (Also if you ever do pick up a dark entity, it is best to have your angels 'bind' it, ask them to do so, and they will. This way you can work through whatever issue has been brought to you and you won`t have a dark entity holding undue influence over you.)

NEVER go into a haunted space with anything but joy and love. Those are the highest vibrations that exist. If you do not know what you are dealing with, then you should find out first, before you get into a situation where you take home a permanent souvenir of your ghost hunt. Corey has a haunted big toe which he picked up while staying in a haunted mansion. It get's angry and turns red. (your big toe is your `destiny' the left is personal life, right is public life. Corey's anger gets in the way of his own destiny. Simple, but that is how energy healing works.) This is also why malevolent energies seek him out, they know they can manipulate him into exploding emotionally, then they get stronger.

Basically Corey Taylor is actively psychic. He has no idea what that means, or what to do with it. So he gathers a few of his friends every now and then, to hang out in abandoned buildings, hoping for a new unearthly experience to add to his collection of anecdotes. A good follow up book by someone who helps earth bound souls to move on is Wayward Spirits & Earthbound Souls by Anson V. Gogh, unlike Corey she knows what she's doing and gives practical advice which will help everyone involved. If you are having experiences like Corey is having, then look around and avail yourself to a good psychic teacher, who will guide you through the pitfalls of mastering your gifts. These are gifts, they will help you in your life's journey, on that I wish you well. If Corey ever does open up his public forum on ghosts and hauntings, let me know. Namaste.

To start with, I am huge fan of Corey Taylor as a musician and performer. I was excited to read the book, and I have not read his first book. Some of the stories are OK. The prose, if that's what we want to call it, is sloppy, rambling, and gives the impression that the writer (Corey) is something of an ego maniac. None of this changes my opinion of the music, however, I wont be reading anything else from him, as I cant get past his 'voice' in the writing. It is grating and condescending to the reader. I can cut it up with the best of them about ideas on religion, energy, or anything else one could think of, but the tone he takes is caustic. If anyone is curious I am not religious in the least. I have to wonder how many people who read this and gave it good reviews are just simpering super fans.

Neil "The Ground Marshal" Melanson is one of the most sought after ground fighting coaches in the world, due to his intense and relentless grappling style and paramount fighting techniques. As a Hayastan Grappler, Neil trained under "Judo" Gene LeBell, Gokor Chivichyan, and received his black belt from Karo "The Heat" Parisyan.

Marshal D. Carper grew up in southwestern Pennsylvania running from bullies and playing video games. Now, much to the surprise of his family, his former bullies, and himself, he trains Brazilian jiu-jitsu under Pedro Sauer black belt Sonny Achille and writes about fighting. In addition to being the Editor-in-Chief of Lockflow.com, Marshal has been published in Ultimate MMA Magazine, Fight! Magazine, and the Escapist. He is also the author of Cauliflower Chronicles: A Grappler's Tale of Self-Discovery and Island Living, and coauthor of Advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with Marcelo Garcia and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: The Open Guard with BJ Penn.

Lance Freimuth is a writer, editor, and photographer who lives in Las Vegas, NV. He also teaches grappling at Xtreme Couture, one of the most highly respected MMA gyms in the world.

Triangle Heaven

This book is not about a single submission, it is about a system. Neil distills years of grappling knowledge into an incredibly easy-to-read manual that discusses the intricacies of one of the most effective moves for grappling and MMA--the triangle choke.

Mastering Triangles provides an eye-opening insight into how to identify, set-up, and execute triangle chokes. Instead of forcing the submission, Neil explains how your opponent's body position will dictate which of his triangle systems will be most effective to apply and finish triangles. This type of systemic knowledge gives you incredible confidence on the mat because no matter what your opponent does you will have a vicious answer.

Equally important, the book contains multiple angles of each step on a given submission or position--making it simple to understand and use. Neil Melanson is the best grappler I have rolled with and his triangle game is crazy. But there is a method to his ridiculously-effective grappling madness. Mastering Triangle Chokes is a clear peek into the method that has made Neil one of the best grappling coaches in the world. There is no doubt this book will elevate any grappler's game.

Excellent Resource on the Triangle Choke

There's a wealth of knowledge here. This book is huge! Who ever knew there were this many triangle setups? I really like how the book is broken down into your opponents body position. The book shows a very systematic way of setting up your triangles. If you're looking to take your triangles (and grappling game in general) to the next level, definitely check this book out!

Complete shift in your perception of the Guard and Triangle

For a lot of grapplers and MMA practitioners it can not be understated what a profound effect this book will have upon your approach to fighting off your back. I trained under few different grappling coaches before training Neil's system, and thought I understood the guard and the triangle, I was wrong.Neil has a formulaic approach to grappling that leaves nothing to error. In every position, Neil has a firm grasp of what the opponent can do and is ready to capitalize on their actions. When used correctly your opponent is nothing more than a fly caught in a spider's web. Neil Melanson does everything, but slap the triangle on your opponent himself. Also go to youtube if your on the fence, Neil has uploaded some of the techniques from his book in HD.

a must for daily inspiration

bought this one for my brother. Original one bought for mother in law, and after she passed away I took her copy back. Have read it daily for 4 years now, and will continue. Also started writing birthdays, anniversaries and other special events in the margins of the day of the events. Not only keeps track of special days/people, it also reminds me that morning of someones birthday, anniversary, etc. Hope this will become a gift to pass along to others,

Led after Morris's death by the legendary Abe Lastfogel, a cherubic little man who treated agents and clients alike as family, the firm transformed the agent's image from garish flesh-peddler to smooth-talking professional. But when Lastfogel's successor brutally sacrificed his best friend--the man who'd brought Barry Diller and Michael Ovitz out of the mail room--William Morris gave birth to its own nemesis: Ovitz's new firm, CAA. Throughout the '80s and '90s, as the Morris Agency made, and lost, such stars as Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts, Kevin Costner and Tom Hanks, Ovitz's power grew inexorably as Morris's waned. Lulled by the phenomenal success of Bill Cosby and the upward spiral of the Beverly Hills real estate market, Morris's board failed to act as death and defection thinned its ranks. Finally, with its flagship motion-picture department on the brink of collapse, the board was faced with the stark reality of having to buy its way back into the business it had once owned.

The growth of the William Morris Agency, founded in 1898, has mirrored the evolution of the entertainment industry. The agency began by booking vaudeville acts, then continued to supply talent to the ever-changing show biz formats?silent movies, radio, "talkies" and TV. And as entertainment become more of a big business, the power of the Morris Agency grew along with it. Rose's descriptions of the formative years of the agency and show business is slow-moving, but his narrative picks up as he details the era of Abe Lastfogel, who headed Morris from the early 1930s to 1969. Rose (West of Eden) really hits his stride in the last third of the book, when his focus shifts from the stars to the Morris agents themselves. Here he vividly describes the Machiavellian tactics employed by the firm's agents against other agencies and against each other to steal clients to advance their own power. Infighting among the Morris agents became public in 1975 when Michael Ovitz and four others bolted to form Creative Artists Agency. Entertainment-industry junkies will find Rose's entire work enjoyable, but more casual readers will likely skim the early sections. Photos not seen by PW.

This would be a fascinating enough story if it was limited to the history of the William Morris Agency, the theatrical agency that has dominated the entertainment industry since the days of vaudeville. But you can't tell the William Morris story without immersing yourself in the history of show business in the twentieth century--how it evolved, who the movers and shakers were, where the business might be heading as the century draws to a close. Rose's exhaustive research is evident throughout. More than 200 sources were used, and while these personal remembrances are what gives the book its depth, the numerous anecdotes also occasionally weigh it down. Not that there's anything very dishy here. One would expect that a story featuring a cast of characters like Marilyn Monroe, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, and Bill Cosby, to name a few, would have a few tales to tell, but Rose sticks pretty much to the business side of their lives. The real stars here are the agents themselves. For once, the backstage boys get to step center stage, and it's power and influence that give them their glow. Ilene Cooper

Terrrific book

Frank Rose's book really delivers a fascinating history of William Morris. It's not about the stars as much as the men (and women) who helped make the stars -- the "star-making machinery" as Joni Mitchell sang in "Free Man in Paris," her ode to David Geffen, himself one of the William Morris men who, incidentally, became a star himself. The Agency is substantial stuff -- and it was a full on inspiration for my own book, The Mailroom, which came later, and covered the Wm Morris Agency in part. Classic stuff, this book.

Tedious History of Agency Filled With Names But Little Else

After seeing this book referenced in a couple Hollywood biographies, I expected to have a book filled with interesting insider stories of the movie and TV business. Instead this lengthy historical project is filled with page after page of unfamiliar names of agents and the stars are only peripheral to the story.

The main problem is that the author tries to cover too much territory--explaining almost 100 years of the William Morris agency. The beginning years of vaudeville could have been covered in a few paragraphs instead of 50 pages. The minute details of insignificant agents should have been left out and instead the focus could have been on the Hollywood stars served by the agents.

There are a few interesting tidbits, but rarely is any detail given to any subject. The early years of television include some often unheard facts about how stars were drawn to the tube. But major events in the business get a paragraph or two. Most of it is based on second-hand research from others books, which results in a number of mistakes by omission or "facts" taken out of context.

At almost 500 pages, it's a long, tedious bore that will only be of interest to entertainment historians. It's not for those looking for an entertaining read filled with insights into how Hollywood works.
