During this time he worked for a computer support company where he provided computer and network support for hundreds of companies across Upstate New York and throughout Northern Pennsylvania. He also worked in a Fortune 500 corporate data center, briefly worked at an Ivy League school’s computer support department and served as an executive at an electrical engineering company. He created and authors the “CyberArms Computer Security Blog”, and his articles have been published in international security magazines, and referenced by both technical entities and the media. Daniel has assisted with numerous security training classes and technical training books mainly based on Backtrack and Kali Linux.

Noble Effort at Kali Exposure

All in all, this book gives a decent run through of a lot of the security tools found on a Kali Linux distribution. However, this book was not a home run for me for several reasons. First, the good....

Things I appreciated about this book:
* Nice screen shots - some have complained that they are black and white but I didn't care. They are clear and easy to read. Great job of giving us a visual.
* Writing is easy to read - The author doesn't try to talk over your head. Much appreciated.
* Social Engineering toolkit chapters are a great introduction to the SET capability
* Covers a variety of topics including social engineering, wireless exploits, and metasploit.

Where the book falls short:
* Some of the chapters were already outdated. For instance, I couldn't get Veil to work at all after two hours of troubleshooting, updating, reading web forums...etc. Metasploit google search was non-existant... Dmitry didn't work....etc. I understand that the author can't control when and how Kali updates, but it rendered certain portions of the book worthless.
* The Windows privilege escalation chapter(s) are a huge foul. He starts under the premise that you have a meterpreter session with a Windows 7 box, however doesn't show you how to do this. Windows 7 is not easily penetrable and since this is a "Basics" book, I would have expected the author to walk us through this or at least give us an idea of what exploit he ran.
* Would have liked more depth in most/all of the topics.
* Needs some exercises to reinforce learning.

This book attempts to find the hard-to-reach ground of being a beginner book, while also giving depth for clarity, and breadth of information. However, in my opinion it doesn't quite get there.

Easy to read, well balanced between beginner and experienced pen tester

Outstanding read! I am attending a 6 month course on net attack/net defense and this book has been my classes favorite by a long shot. It is not part of the course curriculum, but is our go to for weekend work on our practice labs. Very easy to follow along, yet challenging enough to make sure you are grasping the concepts as you go along. One hint, if you are exploring and hit a road bump, take a look at the next chapter- My friends and I spent a lot of time spinning our wheels, only to find the answer on the next page.
Do yourself a favor and get a nice lab set up prior to going through the book. This book doesn't just go over obvious exploitable machines, but also does some great work on social engineering to get into more properly hardened machines, such as Win 7.
The pictures were very helpful and Mr. Dieterle's writing style is easy to follow. We went through just about every book for beginners to moderately experienced pen testers and this one was just the right balance for us.

Best book on Linux security I have read.

There are a number of books on linux security out there, and all of them fall short in some way, this one made clear what I was trying to learn, using great text and clear, concise photographs.

The writing is excellent, and the coverage that is there, which is at a expert level of depth (though written in such a way that a beginner can grasp), is solid. In addition, security is something you have to work at, so having an introduction to get you down the road is a good idea anyway. This is a solid walkthrough of Kali Linux security.

Wonderful, heartwarming series

I have zoomed through these 4 Mitford books and am now midway through the 5th. The characters grab you and transport you to a town where I think, deep down, we would all like to call home. Father Tim is a "real" person with very human characteristics. Yet his basic goodness will restore your faith in humanity. The theology is not shoved down your throat, but rather is grasped between the lines. All the characters are memorable. Cynthia and Dooley in particular help shape the wonderful story line. The huge dog, Barnabus, who is disciplined only by hearing Bible verse, worms his way into your heart. I am so glad I discovered this series, and I recommend it to absolutely anyone!

The Mitford Series

I absolutely loved this series, and have shared it with my closest friends and family. Mitford certainly has its share of eccentric folks, and I found myself identifying with many of the them, and truly enjoying them. A pleasant, easy read, I looked forward to each book. I found the writing wonderfully humorous and at times quite touching and would recommend this series of books to anyone looking for characters with the human touch! Jan Karon has described my kind of town in Mitford.

Grade 1-3?In Halmoni and the Picnic (Houghton, 1993), Yunmi's grandmother went to New York City to take care of her while her parents worked, and charmed Yunmi's classmates during a class trip. Now Halmoni is taking the girl back to Korea for a memorial celebration of her late husband's birthday, and it is Yunmi's turn to feel like an outsider. Halmoni, who was so isolated and lonely in New York, is greeted by a large and loving family. Even her cat and dog welcome her back. Yunmi's cousins act as tour guides to the sights of Seoul, and the girl helps prepare Korean dumplings for the picnic at Grandfather's grave. At the memorial, worries overwhelm her. Halmoni seems so happy here that she may not want to return to New York. Not surprisingly, the woman reassures her American granddaughter, "We're lucky because we both have two families." This gentle, predictable story is more an introduction to Korean customs than a plot-driven narrative. Realistic illustrations of Yunmi's family, framed with borders suggesting Korean fabric design, add greatly to the book's appeal. Wonderful book for adults & children

Yunmi and Halmoni's Trip fills a void in the "ethnic" children's book field. Beautifully illustrated and tenderly written, it's a great book to read to your kids or even for yourself. There aren't many childrens books about Koreans and Korean-Americans, so this book is a must for your bookshelf. It's for anyone who wants to read about a loving and understanding relationship between grandmother (halmoni) and granddaughter (Yunmi).

WE bought this book for our Granddaughter and she loved it. It is a fun way to introduce her to part of her cultural heritage and the fact it was a gift from her Hal Moni was just icing on the cake.

About the Author
Michel Foucault was born in Poitiers, France, in 1926. He lecturerd in universities throughout the world; served as director at the Institut Francais in Hamburg, Germany and at the Institut de Philosophi at the Faculte des Lettres in the University of Clermont-Ferrand, France; and wrote frequently for French newspapers and reviews. At the time of his death in 1984, he held a chair at France's most prestigious institutions, the College de France.

The author describes in great detail the many steps that have been taken over many centuries by those in power to manipulate, control, terrify, quantify, observe, categorize and cajole humanity into manageable pigeonhole dwelling "units". It makes you want to immediately read Thoreau.

It is written for physicits

The best book ever written on fluid dynamics for physicists is the one by Landau and Lifshitz. But Landau & Lifshitz is not accessible to undergraduates. I know, I tried using it in class and created a revolution. David Tritton was a professor of physics at the University of Newcastle in the UK. They had a unique emphasis on geophysics and this book was written to help undergraduate physics majors. I consider it the leading book for such students.

Amazing book !

If you are afraid of mathematics but want to learn fluid dynamics then this should be your choice. This book might not contain lots of mathematical equations a typical fluid dynamics book could have, but Tritton had explained certain concepts in fluid dynamics very clearly. This book gave me lots of insights and supplemented my pre-existing knowledge in the subject.
